The Ride Of A Lifetime by Robert Iger

A little late to the party, but I loved the book The Ride Of A Lifetime by Robert Iger of Walt Disney fame.

The Ride Of A Lifetime is not just a memoir of Iger’s professional journey but also of his life’s lessons and experiences. And he shares it all – if you want a quick lesson in leadership, the last chapter Lessons To Lead By is your 15 minute cheat sheet.

But it is the journey or what he calls the “ride” which is inspirational and exhilarating to read. The ups and downs of a working life through the mergers and acquisitions, the rise from the bottom rung of an entertainment company to the CEO of a Fortune 500 entertainment company, equations with people or in Disney parlance “cast members” in the journey, circumstances or situations behind the scenes which were privy to the people involved in it – the anticipation and joy of a job well done at the end of the day. For a company whose legacy itself is someone looks up to, admires and hope to be part of the creativity that brings joy to the hearts of many – how it continues to be relevant with the times is what the book takes you through.

The book The Ride Of A Lifetime by Robert Iger inspires you, teaches you many lessons of life, tells you to keep moving and doing your job to the best of your abilities (but grasp the opportunity when it presents itself) – a lesson from the Indian scripture Gita as well.

And even a man of his calibre with all his vision, hardworking nature, network, and instinct acknowledges the role of luck responsible for success at the end of the day – something that remains elusive in my journey.

Have a read, it is entertaining and you will not be disappointed.
